However, the low plateaus with deserts dominate the geographical scenario. The lowest point is lake Eyre (-15 meter) whereas the highest point is mount Kosciuszko (2,229meter).
- Climate: The type of climate generally varies from arid to semi arid. In the south and east, it is temperate whereas in the north, it is tropical. Regular, tropical sea breeze, known as the Doctor occurs along the west coast in the summer.

- Natural resources: There is a huge reserve of gold in Kalgoorlie of Western Australia. Apart from that there are reserves of iron, silver, diamonds, petroleum, natural gas, copper, bauxite, etc.
